Full Radio Schedule...

The Southern Illinois Radio Information Service, SIRIS, is a non-profit organization that provides a free, over-the-air reading and information service for blind, visually impaired, and print-disabled individuals.

Who is eligible?
Any person in the WSIU-FM (91.9) or WVSI-FM (88.9) listening area whose eyesight or physical condition makes it difficult or impossible to read a newspaper or book qualifies to receive the SIRIS broadcast.
How does it work?
SIRIS programming is broadcast on a subcarrier frequency of the WSIU-FM and WVSI-FM main signal. The broadcast can only be heard on a special radio called a subcarrier receiver. These receivers are provided at no cost to qualified users and are available through WSIU Public Broadcasting.
Can I receive the broadcast?
If you tune your FM radio to either WSIU-FM (91.9) or WVSI-FM (88.9) and hear our regular broadcast then you should be able to receive the SIRIS broadcast.
How do I get more information?
Contact the SIRIS director by phone at (618) 453-4344 or toll free at (866) 498-5561.

Become a SIRIS Volunteer
SIRIS depends heavily on its volunteers.  From reading to delivering receivers, if you have the time we have the work to be done.

Volunteer Readers

SIRIS volunteers read local newspapers and magazines and record them into computers for broadcast to the blind and sight-impaired.

All it takes to become a volunteer reader is a clear, understandable voice, a love of reading, and at least one hour to spare.

 Volunteer Office Assistants

If you aren't interested in reading, you can assist the SIRIS program with distribution of its special radio receivers, answering calls from listeners, and other general office work.
