| QUALIFICATIONS: |
Bachelor's degree in Radio-Television, or closely related field required, three years of radio station production/operations management experience required: as well as ability to operate and oversee digital automation & traffic systems, audio routing systems, and satellite and broadband program distribution systems. Studio and field recording best principals and practices knowledge preferred. |
| DUTIES: |
This position supervises the daily operations of WSIU Radio and its affiliated radio stations to ensure continuity of activity as directed by the radio Station Manager. The Operation Manager position requires an advanced expertise in radio station operation and management. Knowledge of new technologies and the ability to transfer this knowledge into the overall station operation and professional work experience. Position reviews daily program logs for accuracy; evaluates broadcast material for quality, control of production techniques and program materials; oversees automation system operation; assists and evaluation and acquisition of new national program materials; supervises student and community volunteers to insure compliance with Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB) regulations; monitors all radio station operations for compliance with current Federal Communications Commission (FCC) rules and regulations. This position instructs new staff and/or volunteers on station and university policies and procedures. A creative ability to originate new local program ideas and to motivate and assist staff and students to realize their potential. The operation manager is available during off hours to consult and assess problems, and direct necessary resources to handle emergency situations that can arise during a 24 hour a day broadcast schedule. |
| BROADCASTING SERVICE: |
With studio facilities in Carbondale, WSIU Public Broadcasting serves a five-state region and over 2.3 million citizens through educational, informational, and entertainment programming and outreach activities that foster educational, civic, and personal development. The Broadcasting Service operates five public broadcasting stations, WSIU-DT, WSIU-FM, WUSI-DT, WUSI-FM, WVSI-FM; a radio reading service; educational services and teacher training for pre-K-12th grade and adult learners; and community outreach services. The Service has a 33 person professional staff, 100 person student staff, a $7.3 million annual budget, and is an integral component of the College and University, with a close working relationship with the departments of Radio/Television, Cinema & Photography, and the School of Journalism. Its mission is closely linked with the academic mission of the College and the University. |
| THE COLLEGE: |
The College of Mass Communication and Media Arts has three academic units, the Departments of Cinema & Photography and Radio-Television and the School of Journalism, as well as WSIU Public Broadcasting which houses the University’s public radio and television stations. The College enrolls approximately 1,000 undergraduate and 150 graduate students. |
| THE UNIVERSITY: |
Southern Illinois University Carbondale is a Carnegie Research University with an enrollment of over 20,000 students. Carbondale, a university-centered community of 25,000 residents, is located 100 miles southeast of St. Louis, MO, on the edge of the Shawnee National Forest, famous for its rugged hilly terrain and natural beauty. |

News Director at Southern Illinois University Carbondale, College of Mass Communication and Media Arts (MCMA) |

| QUALIFICATIONS: |
Position requires a bachelor's degree in Radio-Television, Journalism, or related field and three years experience in television broadcast journalism. Individual must be familiar with the general responsibilities and scope of a television News Director's position. |
| DUTIES: |
Supervise students in the production of River Region Evening Edition News (RREE), a student newscast on WSIU/WUSI Public Television. Set editorial and ethical policies for TV news programming. Develop and maintain newsroom operating standards and procedures. Supervise development of news programming. Administer and supervise RREE website. Evaluate news equipment status and recommend purchases. Mentor and train student staff at RREE. Recruit, hire, and evaluate student staff for RREE. Teach one course each semester in broadcast news. Maintain frequent communications with news faculty, staff, and students. Work collaboratively with the faculty and staff in all academic units, WSIU, and the Daily Egyptian. This position may serve on College committees from time to time. This is a twelve month renewable appointment. During the summer the incumbent will be mentoring students, possibly teaching a class, and performing other duties as assigned in the College. |
| THE COLLEGE: |
MCMA includes the Departments of Radio-Television, Cinema & Photography, the School of Journalism, and the University's public radio and television stations, WSIU/WUSI. It has an enrollment of approximately 900 students with 50 faculty and 60 staff. The College has extensive facilities to support television broadcasting and related curricula. |
| THE UNIVERSITY: |
