POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT
POSITION: Associate Director for Broadcasting Service (Television and Video Services)
QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor's degree in broadcasting, mass communication, journalism, or related field, five years of previously successful administrative management experience that includes personnel supervision, budget creation and budget monitoring, at least five years of progressive management experience at a public or commercial television entity, demonstrated experience in television production at the producer/director level or higher, and experience working with students in a teaching/mentoring capacity.

DUTIES:

Provides administrative oversight, leadership and strategic vision for all television and video services including program selection and placement, broadcast traffic and scheduling, executive in charge of all video productions, management of programming distribution network and oversees mentoring/training opportunities for SIU students.
This position works under general direction from the Executive Director, exercising wide discretion and independent judgment in determining strategies and supervising their execution in order to achieve the mission of the entire organization as it relates to television and video services. The Associate Director serves as a strategic advisor to the Executive Director and as part of the WSIU Management team. Position collaborates with other managers to develop strategic directions leading to enhanced public service and greater sustainability. Develops and administers budgets, forms and executes policy, recommends personnel actions to the Executive Director, negotiates contracts and oversees aspects of compliance with federal, state and local regulations including; FCC, CPB, FAA, and NTIA. The Associate Director must independently and as part of a team resolve complex programs that routinely involve multiple parties/departments both inside the organization and outside (i.e. other departments within Broadcasting Service, other departments on campus, other public broadcasting stations in the state or region, and national entities such as PBS, CPB, NTIA, etc.)

BROADCASTING SERVICE: With studio facilities in Carbondale, WSIU Public Broadcasting serves a five-state region and over 2.3 million citizens through educational, informational, and entertainment programming and outreach activities that foster educational, civic, and personal development.  The Broadcasting Service operates five public broadcasting stations, WSIU-DT, WSIU-FM, WUSI-DT, WUSI-FM, WVSI-FM; a radio reading service; educational services and teacher training for preK-12th grade and adult learners; and community outreach services.  The Service has a 33 person professional staff, 100 person student staff, a $7.3 million annual budget, and is an integral component of the College and University, with a close working relationship with the departments of Radio/Television, Cinema & Photography, and the School of Journalism. Its mission is closely linked with the academic mission of the College and the University.
THE COLLEGE: The College of Mass Communication and Media Arts has three academic units, the Departments of Cinema & Photography and Radio-Television and the School of Journalism, as well as WSIU Public Broadcasting which houses the University’s public radio and television stations. The College enrolls approximately 1,000 undergraduate and 150 graduate students.
THE UNIVERSITY: Southern Illinois University Carbondale is a Carnegie Research University with an enrollment of over 20,000 students. Carbondale, a university-centered community of 25,000 residents, is located 100 miles southeast of St. Louis, MO, on the edge of the Shawnee National Forest, famous for its rugged hilly terrain and natural beauty.
