Car Crash Kills One And Injures Two

By Brad Palmer

Massac County, IL – A southern Illinois teenager is dead and two others are injured after a one-vehicle crash yesterday afternoon in Massac County.
The Illinois State Police say 17-year-old Kelsey Glass of Belknap died at the scene of the accident on Massac Creek Road. The driver of the vehicle, 17-year-old Dalton Mittendorf and another passenger, 17-year-old Frank Fortman the Third, both were injured.
Mittendorf was airlifted to Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau with serious injuries. Fortman was taken to Massac Memorial Hospital in Metropolis with minor injuries.
State police say Mittendorf was traveling at a high rate of speed when the vehicle jumped a hilltop, ran off the road, struck a utility pole and overturned.
Police say preliminary indications suggest that Glass and Mittendorf were not wearing their seat belts.
Charges are pending. The crash is still under investigation by the Illinois State Police.
