Sports Consultant Talks of Opportunities for Blagojevich

By AP

Chicago, IL – A sports consultant told an aide to Rod Blagojevich that Barack Obama's election presented ``opportunities'' for the then-governor.

Marc Ganis is a consultant helping with business deals involving the Tribune-owned Chicago Cubs and Wrigley Field.

Ganis told John Harris in a November 6th E-mail obtained by the Associated Press that ``the opportunities we discussed ... are in front of you guys.''

Ganis says the discussions were about having Obama help mend relations between Blagojevich and lawmakers, feuding which has stymied progress in the Capitol. Ganis has not been charged with wrongdoing.

Blagojevich and his then-chief of staff Harris were arrested December 9th on a federal criminal complaint alleging they tried to sell an appointment to Obama's vacant Senate seat to the highest bidder.
O
Blagojevich was removed from office in January.
