Springfield, IL – The state treasurer says Illinois could Save $82 million by consolidating its pension systems.
Treasurer Alexi Giannoulias says he wants to lump management of the five pension systems into one board.
The treasurer says the existing system lets corruption go unnoticed.
To fight that, he wants to enforce stronger ethics rules by banning members from accepting gifts and requiring them to file annual reports of potential conflicts of interest.
Giannoulias also wants to post the board's investments online.
The treasurer says the consolidation will curb pay-to-play and other ethical wrongdoing.
