Burris Added as a Defendant in Lawsuit

By AP

Chicago, IL – U.S. Senator Roland Burris has been added to the list of defendants in a lawsuit aimed at forcing Illinois Governor Pat Quinn to call an election to fill his seat.

Burris had already asked to be a friend of the court.

But U.S. district judge John F. Grady said Wednesday that it's Burris's seat at stake and therefore he would be ``very nervous'' about hearing arguments unless the newly appointed senator were among the defendants.

Burris was appointed by former Governor Rod Blagojevich to fill the seat left vacant by President Barack Obama. The attorneys who brought the case, Martin Oberman and Thomas Geoghegan, say Quinn should call an election so voters can choose a senator to fill the unexpired portion of Obama's term.
