Former State Worker Claims Blagojevich Fired Her for Talking to FBI

By AP

Springfield, IL – A former state employee claims in a lawsuit that she was fired for talking to the FBI about an illegal hiring scheme under former Governor Rod Blagojevich.

Deborah Tumulty was the Revenue Department's personnel director from 2004 to 2006.

She claims in Sangamon County Circuit Court that Blagojevich used state hiring to collect campaign cash and political favors.

Tumulty says she was fired in February 2007 after telling Revenue Director Brian Hamer she was cooperating with the FBI in an investigation of Blagojevich's hiring practices.

Blagojevich faces a federal corruption complaint.

Hamer's spokeswoman declined comment.
