Southern Illinois – Peace coalition of Southern Illinois along with the Shawnee Green Party and Students for Peace and Democracy are marking the seventh year of the war in Iraq.
Organizers of the events say the vigils are to keep the issues of what they feel are counterproductive and wasteful military actions in the public eye.
Peace coalition member Georgeann Hartzog says they also want to honor those injured and killed in the war.
Hartzog says the local vigils are part of nationwide events marking the seventh year of the war.
The first vigil is tomorrow from 7 p.m. To 8 p.m. at the labyrinth interfaith center.
Another observation takes place on Saturday from noon to 1:30 at the town square pavilion in Carbondale.
