Carbondale, IL – Southern Illinois University has tens of millions of dollars tied up in the potential capital bill before lawmakers this spring, but leaders aren't calling construction firms just yet.
SIU president Glenn Poshard says the capital plan relies on a contentious tax increase and pension fund restructuring, and he's concerned with plans to split the proposal in half.
Money in Governor Quinn's capital spending proposal would finish Morris library, fund the construction of the transportation education center and science buildings in Edwardsville, and begin planning for the communications building at SIU-Carbondale.
Legislative leaders say despite the tough decisions ahead, they expect to have votes on the issues by the end of May.
