Marion, IL – Governor Pat Quinn says he doesn't support a plan proposed by a southern Illinois lawmaker to trade votes for the Chicago Olympic bid in exchange for a conceal-carry law.
Norris City Representative Brandon Phelps proposed the idea because of his concern that Illinois will remain one of two states not to allow its residents to carry concealed weapons.
Governor Quinn says he won't support such a horse trade because he foresees southern Illinois playing a key role in Chicago's 2016 Olympic bid.
A measure that would have the state of Illinois provide some financial backing to Chicago's Olympic bid is moving through the legislature. The Illinois House easily advanced the plan that would guarantee 250-million dollars in state funds should the games fail to cover costs.
