Chester, IL – A southern Illinois school district is testing a new piece of technology that its creators hope will improve early childhood education.
SMART Technologies of Chicago created the SMART Table. It's an interactive, touch screen learning center that allows teams of students to work on solving problems in subjects such as mathematics and science.
Chester third grade teacher Alisa Harrell demonstrated the touch screen technology today with the help of four students. Harrell says allowing young students a chance to collaborate in solving problems is the key to learning. Third grade student Carson Colvis says she likes working with her classmates on the SMART Table.
Chester Grade School is one of just 12 schools in North America testing the new technology.
