Carterville, IL – High School students in Southern Illinois and across the state are getting some help preparing for college thanks to a program called the Illinois Student Assistance Corps.
Corps members are being distributed to every community college district across Illinois to act as advisors, making sure graduating students are prepared to enter and succeed in college.
SIU-C alumnus Erik Rancatore is a corps member stationed in the John A. Logan college district. He says the goal is to provide assistance particularly to low-income and first generation students.
Corps members serve two-year commitments in their assigned college district and underwent a seven-week summer training camp. The program is made possible by funding from the Federal College Access Challenge Grant Program.
