Chicago, IL – Another major union is endorsing Gov. Pat Quinn in the Democratic primary for governor.
Earlier this month it was the Teamsters; now it's the Service Employees International Union endorsing Quinn, and promising to work with the Teamsters on the governor's behalf, says Tom Balanoff, president of the SEIU Illinois Council.
Balanoff gives Quinn credit for the Illinois Now capital program, which he says will boost the economy.
The SEIU has about 170,000 members in Illinois, mostly in the private sector as janitors and nursing home attendants. In the public sector, the union represents maintenance personnel at the University of Illinois.
