Local Doctor Indicted

Benton, IL – A southern Illinois doctor and his practices face multiple charges in federal court.

The US Attorney's office says Dr. Sukhdarshan Bedi of Energy was indicted last week for obstructing justice, witness tampering, making false statements and illegally dispensing controlled substances.

In addition, Bedi's clinics, Marion Family Healthcare, Harrisburg Family Healthcare and Galatia Medical Center are accused of illegally dispensing a controlled substance and healthcare fraud.

Prosecutors say Bedi and his associates illegally gave out oxycodone and methadone. If convicted, Bedi faces 20 years or more behind bars, in addition to fines and the possibility of losing his license.
