Mt. Vernon, IL – An Indiana man was injured when his experimental plane crashed at the Mt. Vernon Outland Airport.
Authorities say the unidentified man's plane went down at about 10 a.m. He was initially treated in Mount Vernon before being transferred to a St. Louis Hospital.
Federal Aviation Administration spokesman Tony Molinaro says the plane was flying to Mount Vernon from an airport in Greenwood, Indiana. Mount Vernon Outland Airport manager Chris Collins says the pilot was coming in for a weekend gathering of fellow fliers with Rand Robinson KR Experimental Aircraft when a gust of wind caused the plane to teeter and flip.
