With schools starting, drivers will be seeing more school buses and more activity around school zones. The Illinois State Police say passing a stopped bus with lights flashing and speeding around schools, are violations they will be watching for.
Casey Faro is a Captain with the Illinois State Police.
"Yes, the Illinois State Police takes this very seriously., so much so, we have troopers in every school zone., every day, all the way through September."
In addition to not texting and driving, Captain Faro says drivers should eliminate all distractions.
"Yeah so things that aren't even against the law dropping something on a floor board, or going to change the radio station can distract you long enough that a child could run out in front of the road in front of you."
Faro says passing a stopped bus with it's sign out and lights flashing is a 164 dollar fine, but in school zones the fine is 250 dollars.
