A new food pantry in Cairo is hoping to fight food insecurity by spreading information and choice, when it comes for families deciding on what foods to eat.
Arrowleaf CEO Sherrie Crabb says the goal is to help people learn the details of a healthy diet.
"This experience is gonna be very different. This is going to be styled after a grocery store as you can kind of tell. Our main goal is to make sure that we have all the food groups, it's called 'Client Choice' because they will have the choice to pick out what they need for their family."
Crabb says the traditional model of food pantries often have a limited supply of food delivered on a certain day, with some items not good for a healthy diet and she says this new food pantry will have a greater variety of food, and have plenty of informational flyers and posters explaining how eating a balanced meal is important to a person's health.
The food pantry is located at 1401 Washington Avenue in Cairo.
