Carbondale applies for grant for a downtown entertainment and music venue

Provided by the city of Carbondale

The Carbondale City Council on Thursday, gave the go ahead to apply for a State grant to help build a downtown Entertainment and Event plaza in the area of south Washington street.

City Manager Gary Williams said he feels confident the grant will come through.

"And we think that we have a lot of the attributes in our grant, in our community, that will make this a highly competitive DCEO Grant."

The State grant is aimed at helping cities whose downtowns have been hurt by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Williams says the city will be seeking just over two million dollars for the 2.5 million dollar project. The project will improve the area of

Washington street where the city has recently held several music events over the last several years.
