New cases have leveled off, but experts say disease is still circulating

Twenty Illinois counties are listed in the "elevated" community level for COVID-19 this week.

The Illinois Department of Public Health and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention list 20 counties - up one from last week's total - in the medium level. Nine of those are in southern Illinois.

The IDPH and SIU School of Medicine have launched a telehealth partnership aimed at getting treatment to those who need it a little bit faster.

The Test-to-Treat program gives faster and easier access to patients who've tested positive for the virus, to help determine if they need medical treatment.

The number to call for that is 217-545-5100, and it's available Monday - Friday from 7:00am to 8:00pm, and on weekends from 10:00am to 5:00pm.

More than 11,000 new cases were reported in the last week, along with 37 deaths. More than 4,000,000 positive tests have been recorded since the pandemic began in Illinois.

Vaccines and boosters are available at your local health department - you can get more information at vaccines.gov.
