The country will celebrate Dr. Martin Luther King Jr's fight for civil rights on Monday. The group Carbondale United kicks off the weekend celebrating his legacy Saturday morning. The event is called the MLK Love Train. Participants will leave the Bonan Business Center in Harrisburg. From there they will head to Ray Fosse Park in Marion, the Murdale Shopping Center in Carbondale before ending up at the Davis-McCann center in Murphysboro for a free lunch.
Conductors will lead the procession and keep everyone together. At the lunch there will be performances bye singers, dancers, and poets. Nancy Maxwell, the group's director says it's as important now as ever to to keep "Martin Luther King's dream alive."
She also says the Love Train is a great family activity - where kids can take part in decorating cars, fellowship, and community building.
