Families may start looking into summer camps with warm weather approaching. The Better Business Bureau says it is important to have the same level of care you would when choosing a childcare provider in choosing a camp.
Sydney Waters from the BBB advises visiting the camp before sending your child there and researching the organization before paying.
"There's an American Camp Association and they accredit summer camps. The camps must meet 32 national summer camp standards... If you're looking for a good camp, I highly recommend you make sure they are accredited by the ACA."
It is important to match your child's interests to the structure and intensity of the activities at a camp. Some camps have lists of past campers or staff members willing to provide references. Be aware of the required camp safety standards, and ask about being able to contact your child while they are away. It is a good sign if the camp has a high return rate.
