Jobs and unemployment rates are up in the Carbondale-Marion metro area

Over-the-year, the unemployment rate increased in all fourteen metropolitan areas of Illinois in July.

The Illinois Department of Employment Security reports the unemployment rate in the Carbondale-Marion metro went from 4.8 percent in July 2023 to 5.8 percent last month.

The rate also increased in all counties in the region.

The highest rate was in Pulaski County at ten percent. The lowest was in both Hamilton and Wabash counties at 4.7 percent.

Total non-farm jobs increased overall in the Carbondale-Marion metro area.

Employment rose among Government, Natural Resources-Mining, Information and Other Services.

Job losses were reported in construction and manufacturing.
