From Sleepers to Sneakers | Creating a Vision for Carbondale's Youngest Children

Join us in brainstorming ways to build a brighter future for Carbondale's youngest residents (ages 0-6). Facilitated by Dr. Daniela Lewy, Consultant, Owner of Social Determinants of Health Consulting.

This is the first in a series of community planning events sponsored by the Carbondale Community Cabinet for Children and Youth. The Cabinet is a partnership between the greater Carbondale community and the city of Carbondale, facilitated by the Southern Illinois Coalition for Children and Families and the Partnership for Resilience/Resilient SI. It was created to provide leadership, facilitate collaborations, and create opportunities that make Carbondale a community where all children thrive and students succeed. Working together. we can make Carbondale a great place to raise a family.

The Cabinet's focus is on children and youth from prenatal through eighteen years of age living within the boundaries of CCHS #165. The first step in this work is identifying what resources and supports are needed to make this vision a reality. Matching this with what is currently available, we can identify the gaps and work together to help fill those gaps. This includes the resources and support needed by the parents, family, and caregivers who raise them. By coordinating services, developing a common agenda, identifying desired outcomes, and collaboratively deciding upon and implementing plans, the Cabinet will foster the well-being of children and youth in the Carbondale community. Sessions focusing on older children and youth will be scheduled in future months. This Community Conversation is funded through a planning grant through Birth to Five Illinois.

This work is being implemented in partnership with the exciting Individualized Student Success Planning cohort, facilitated by the Harvard Graduate School of Education's EdRedesign Lab, of which Unity Point School and Carbondale District 95 are two of twelve school districts across the nation participating.

There are two separate sessions from which community members can choose. They are the same sessions. One will be Monday evening and the second will be Tuesday morning.
