Learning in Retirement: "Restoration Efforts at the Cache River Watershed"
Molie Oliver, Natural Resource Coordinator for Illinois Department of Natural Resources at Cache River Natural Area, will be the presenter at the Southern Illinois Learning in Retirement (SILIR) meeting on Wednesday, October 16, at 10:30 am. Molie will offer an update on the progress of different restoration efforts at the Cache River Watershed. Cache River State Natural Area and Cypress Creek National Wildlife Refuge became operational sites in 1990 with a focus on the preservation and restoration of the southern bald cypress and water tupelo swamp habitat, unique to Illinois. There has been much change in watershed restoration efforts over the years.
Molie Oliver has worked for the Illinois Department of Natural Resources at Cache River Natural Area for 18 years. Molie is based at the Cache River Wetlands Center in Cypress, Illinois.
The presentation, free and open to the public, will be at Epiphany Lutheran Church, 1501 West Chautauqua Street in Carbondale. A coffee and social hour begins at 9:30 am. For more information, call Diane McIntyre at 618-536-7751, email silir@siu.edu or visit the SILIR web page at conferenceservices.siu.edu/silir.
