SIU recognizes 16 students for outstanding leadership, service

CARBONDALE, Ill. — Sixteen students from Southern Illinois University Carbondale have received Outstanding Leadership and Service Awards, which recognize their commitment to leadership, service and improving the campus.

The third annual awards presentation for seniors who are graduating in May or December took place April 26 at the Student Center Ballrooms. Students were nominated by faculty, staff and peers and then completed applications. The award recipients were chosen via committee reviews. This year more than 75 students were nominated for the Division of Student Affairs award, which was presented by Jennifer Jones-Hall, dean of students.

The 2023 award recipients, listed by hometown with their majors, are:

ILLINOIS

  • Beecher City – Zachery Burks, civil engineering
  • Beardstown – Eduardo (Lalo) Munoz, electrical engineering
  • Chicago – Grace Gunn, public health
  • Coulterville – Adrianna Harris, recreation professions
  • Lakemoor – Jacob Vezensky, architectural studies
  • Marion – Jordan Altug, microbiology; Kelsey Watson, communication disorders and sciences
  • Minier – Darcy Tripod, forestry
  • Murphysboro – Ryan Jurich, economics
  • Rockton – Ashlyn Ege, communication studies
  • Springfield – Grace DuRocher, biochemistry
  • Sainte Marie – Arianna Goss, health care management

INDIANA

  • Lakeville – Alexandria Tungate, agricultural systems and education

MISSISSIPPI

  • Horn Lake – Audrey “Claire” Waldon, civil engineering

MISSOURI

  • Cape Girardeau – Daysi Rodriguez, radiologic sciences
  • St. Louis – Myla Croft, political science
