SIU Air Force ROTC to hold stair climb to commemorate 9/11

CARBONDALE, Ill. – Members of Southern Illinois University Carbondale’s Air Force ROTC detachment will pay tribute to the victims of Sept. 11, 2001, with a strenuous workout session on Monday, Sept.11, at Saluki Stadium. This year, organizers are opening the free event to Southern Illinois first responders, veterans and the local community.

The 9/11 Saluki Stair Climb Tribute involves a simulated 110-floor stair climb, representing the 110 floors of the World Trade Center twin towers that were destroyed that day.

Participants should arrive at 5:45 a.m. so that the event can being promptly at 6 a.m. with remarks from Lt. Col. Jessica Dwyer, Air Force ROTC detachment 205 commander.

The workout honors first responders, members of the military and civilians who lost their lives as a result of the 9/11 terrorist attacks.

The first 100 participants to complete the challenge will receive a free T-shirt. Winston's Bagels and Cold Blooded Coffee will be on site, as well. In case of inclement weather, the event will be moved indoors to the Banterra Center. Register at siusalukis.com/stairclimb.
