Carbondale is celebrating the completion of its newest bike path.

This week, Carbondale is celebrating the completion of its newest bike path. A ribbon-cutting ceremony will take place to honor its opening.

The path was funded by a Transportation Enhancement Program grant from the from the Illinois Department of Transportation. The mile-long, multi-use paved path starts on North Oakland Ave across from the Green Earth Oakland Preserve, and stretches to New Era Road.

Ceremony attendees are encouraged to walk or bring their bikes to explore the city's newest addition to its expanding bike lanes and trails.

The ribbon-cutting will take place on Wednesday, September 27 at 5:30pm at the path starting point. The scheduled rain date is Friday, September 29 at 5:30pm.

Mayor Carolin Harvey will speak at the ceremony, where the name of the path will be revealed.
