A public hearing in Mt. Vernon will look at housing grants

Mt. Vernon is holding an upcoming public hearing related to a Community Development Block Housing Rehab Grant.

City officials say this will mark the first step in the application process for the much-needed grant.

If awarded, the funds will be utilized for essential improvements, including siding, windows, roofs, floor coverings, bathroom rehabilitation, furnaces, water heaters, and more.

The specific upgrades will be determined based on the unique needs of each housing unit. Crosswalk Community Action Agency will administer the grant application and implement the home improvements.

The public hearing -- to gauge the interest and needs of the community -- is scheduled to take place at Mt. Vernon City Hall Monday, November 20 at 6:30 p.m.
