Residents in 42 central and southern Illinois communities are a step closer to having environmentally and cost-friendly electric transportation, according to Ameren Illinois.
A total of $675,000 will be awarded to help launch various electric transportation projects.
Through the Community Engagement and Consultation Program, communities in the region receive technical assistance to help develop the outline of a comprehensive plan.
Lenny Singh, the Chairman and President of Ameren Illinois, said, "We're excited to see these communities take the next steps in creating lasting benefits for residents and businesses alike."
The initiative is part of the Climate and Equitable Jobs Act of 2021, which is filed every three years to address how the company will help encourage the transition to electric vehicles.
The program also helps to support the state's sustainability and carbon reduction goals while driving Ameren's plan for economic development.
