A vigil to honor the memory of Amir Locke is being held this Sunday at Turley Park in Carbondale.

Locke was killed when a SWAT team entered his apartment using a no-knock warrant earlier this month. While Locke lived in Minneapolis, vigil organizer Chastity Mays said it's important for people to show unity regardless of where they live and know that they aren't alone in feeling traumatized by these events.

"We'll have some speakers, we'll have speakers from different organizations like the Sunrise Movement and just come if you want to show unity and also get to know your community members, it's just really important we think," Mays said.

The vigil will begin at 5:15 pm on Sunday, February 27th at Turley Park. Organizers say people should wear masks and bring candles if they have them.
