Petition Asks For Tax Moratorium
As restaurants continue to see their sales drop, because of the COVID-19 stay at home order, one southern Illinois couple is calling on a Tax Moratorium in the City of Carbondale.
William Lo's parents own New Kahala restaurant, located on Carbondale's Strip. William, together with his wife Keesha manage the restaurant. They made the decision to close the restaurant during the COVID-19 cris, to allow their workers to sign up for unemployment benefits.
The City of Carbondale has extended -- by 30 days -- the deadline for municipal taxes, including the Food and Beverage Tax and the Package LiquorTax.
In order to help local restaurants even more, Keesha and William have started an online petition supporting the moratorium. You can view the petition at: https://www.ipetitions.com/petition/carbondale-food-and-beverage-tax-relief?utm_source=facebook&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign="e_id=quote3&title_id=title2&recruiter=15447372&loc=dashboard
Additionally, in order to encourage the public to continue to buy food from those restaurants that are open with drive-up service, the couple has created the Curbside Challenge, on their Southern Illinois Eats Facebook page.
