A Black business expo is being hosted at the SIU student center on Saturday, February 19th..
Black Chamber of Commerce President Chastity Mays said it can be hard for anyone to start a new business, and the chamber is designed to help entrepreneurs.
"Living in southern Illinois, sometimes we can experience barriers that are put in our way as people of color owning a business, so we just think it's important that we lift up those businesses and give them the support that they need to succeed," Mays said.
The expo will feature a variety of vendors, including those selling skincare products, and jewelry as well as services like photography and personal training. There will also be food vendors, as well as a presentation on cybersecurity and a fashion show. The expo will be held from 10 am to 3 pm.
