Students are starting school this week, but in Carbondale parents have some options.

Instead of heading back to the classroom this fall many students will continue remote learning.

The Carbondale Park District is working with the Carbondale School District to mirror the school schedule at the two child care facilities they operate.

The Alice Wright Early Child Care will oversee kids 3 to 6 years old and the Kids Korner will have kids ages 6 to 12.

New this year the district is offering a day camp for middle school students at Hickory Ridge Golf Course utilizing the restaurant area to maintain social distancing.

Executive Director Kathy Renfro says all the programs will have qualified teachers to assist with e-learning and homework.

“Because the park district has the opportunity to engage kids in smaller groups that we felt like we could help provide to meet some of the needs of students whose grown-ups may not have the opportunity to be with them while that remote learning is going on.”

Kids have to be enrolled at the facilities to participate.

The Carbondale Boys and Girls Club is also working with the school district to be a distance learning site.
