Anna District 37 will be making safety upgrades to schools

The district says the improvements will make the school safer for students.

Anna District 37 will be upgrading safety measures in their schools thanks to a School Violence Prevention grant from the Department of Justice.

Superintendent Dr. Julie Bullard said the district will use the funds for training and physical improvements to the district's buildings. The training will include how to deal with bullying and ways to de-escalate potentially violent situations.

The district will be upgrading locks on the school buildings and making it easier to lock down in case of an emergency.

"We're installing a program that will allow the administrators to lock down the entire district, both buildings, by the push of one button. So we're hoping that will also kind of amp up our safety for our students," Bullard said.

Other planned improvements include upgrading cameras and installing a window film that makes it more difficult to enter a classroom.
