Over 6000 children in Southern Illinois are enrolled in the Dolly Parton's Imagination Library program. The first set of books was delivered to these readers last week, each catered to the child's age and interests.
Dolly Parton's Imagination Library is a renowned program that provides free books to children from birth to age five, regardless of family income. Selected books are mailed to the child's home, and are aimed to establish a love of reading during the critical years of a child's development. Overall, the program has been received positively by parents and caregivers.
The Imagination Library has grown to be one of the biggest literacy programs in the world and is expected to expand in Southern Illinois as more families enroll. It's made possible through local partnerships, community support, and donations.
