With the start of fall approaching, Ameren offers tips on energy usage to help you save on utility bills.

A tip that Ameren gave was to close your curtains on hot days. When the sun gets let inside, it'll heat your home, causing your air conditioner to run more often.

You can also program your thermostat to run around 78 degrees when nobody is home. This can save up to 12% of energy on cooling costs.

When still plugged in, many electronic devices will continue to use power even if turned off. Plugging these devices into advanced power strips or disconnecting them completely can reduce energy usage.

Shutting ceiling fans off before leaving the house will keep you from wasting energy.

Use materials such as window film kits, caulk, and weatherstripping to keep warm or cold air from escaping your home while saving up to 30% on energy bills.
