A virtual film screening this Friday will follow the journey of a veteran with PTSD on his path toward recovery.
Centerstone is hosting the screening of '100 Miles to Redemption' at 6 pm on Friday, October 29th. Manager of children and family services Kristine Nunn said that PTSD can have a huge impact on people's lives, with symptoms including flashbacks, loss of sleep, and a sense of foreboding.
PTSD can be very impairing. It can lead to, you know if you're not sleeping or if you have interrupted sleep night after night, if you're living with a sense of foreboding, that's going to affect your concentration at work, that's going to affect your desire to socialize and to get out and about with your friends, with your loved ones," she said.
Nunn said people may think they can just muscle through it, but it's important to seek formal mental health treatment to help move toward recovery.
"Because with those treatments, those evidence based treatments, it will help symptoms lesson, it will help teach coping skills that somebody can get better and better at doing," she said.
