The COVID-19 surge that began a few weeks ago isn't showing signs of slowing down.
Illinois logged more than 49-thousand new cases this week - up from 42-thousand new cases the previous week. Hospitalizations jumped by more than 600 patients statewide to roughly 32-hundred.
The state's positivity rate is currently four-point-three percent, down four tenths from last week. Vaccination rates statewide are up eight tenths to 59-percent fully vaccinated.
Southern Illinois data is very similar - more than 24-hundred new cases in the WSIU area, up more than 500 from last week. Seventeen deaths were reported across the region. Vaccination rates have slowed - up just a third of a percent in the last week.
Neighboring states are also dealing with the spike. Missouri, Kentucky, and Indiana all saw positivity rates go up, and added more new cases week-over-week.
