Shawnee Health Service and Development Corporation in Carterville is set to receive 3.75 million dollars in federal funds through the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

A written release from U.S. Senator Tammy Duckworth reports these federal resources will go toward updating medical facilities and equipment to address healthcare gaps in rural communities in southern Illinois.

Shawnee Health CEO Christina Carney was quoted in the release saying the funding will help to further enhance their integrated health and community services project to expand service at the Carbondale campus and help bridge the gap community members face when trying to access healthcare.
