SSM Health Illinois is now offering a cutting edge imaging service that helps better detect prostate cancer in men.

SSM marketing and communications consultant Malaya Downey says Pylarify is an advanced diagnostic imaging agent.

"Whenever a patient comes in, they receive a diagnostic imaging agent. That imaging agent is going to work with the PET scanner in order to help locate those prostate-specific cancer cells. So, this imaging agent attaches itself to those cells in order to illuminate that whenever the patient goes into that PET scan."

While prostate cancer can be diagnosed early, it's not clear if the benefits of testing outweigh the risk, such as finding and treating cancers that may not cause any compilations.

Downey says talk to your SSM health primary care physician about your concerns, the risks and potential benefits of a screening before you decide.
