Considering farming for a few years? Stepping back? Or something in-between? Join SIU Medicine for an upcoming live virtual series, "Planning for the Farm's Future and Yours," next month.

Wesley Tucker, a field specialist in agricultural business at University of Missouri Extension, and Monica McConkey, an agricultural mental health counselor from Minnesota, will guide the series discussions. Three online sessions will focus and assist farmers and their families on critical aspects of farm succession planning.

The first program is at 1:30pm or 6:30pm on Thursday March 7. It will cover the basic steps for creating a succession plan and provide insight into key considerations.

The second session will begin at 6:30pm on Wednesday March 13. Participants will explore the types, purposes, participants, and strategies for navigating differences in farm meetings.

The final program is scheduled for 6:30pm Tuesday March 19. Attendees will gain valuable insight into transitioning roles within the farm, gaining experience and mentoring future generations.

The event will be held at the Center for Rural Health and Social Service Development in Carbondale. Registration for one or multiple sessions is open now. To secure your spot, please call or text Lynn Weis at 618-701-1251 or email lynn.weis@siu.edu. There is no cost to participate but space is limited, so early registration is encouraged.
