The Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) announced new laws and rules effective January 1, 2025, aimed at enhancing public health. Key changes include stricter childhood lead testing standards, requiring intervention for blood lead levels above 3.5 µg/dL, down from 5 µg/dL. Such interventions will require an inspector to find and remove the source of lead. In addition, a public health nurse will educate the family on ways to protect children from the harmful effects of lead.
Other laws address nursing home ownership transitions, construction plans for assisted living facilities, reporting abuse in clinics, mobile home park inspections, restrictions on deceptive e-cigarette advertising, and expanded access to free fentanyl test strips.
