Planned Parenthood of Illinois has made the decision to close their four health centers in Ottawa, Decatur, Bloomington, and Englewood.
The organization notes that none of these facilities provide abortion care.
Appointment availability will be expanded at the Champaign, Peoria, Springfield, and Roseland health centers.
Virtual appointment options will be offered to minimize patient disruption.
Tonya Tucker, Interim President and CEO of PPIL said quote, "Patient care is and will always be our number one priority. We are making the difficult decisions today so we can continue providing care tomorrow and well into the future."
The increase in patient volume, low reimbursement rates from insurers, and rising costs of providing care has resulted in the organization's realignment.
In the past three years, PPIL has seen a 47% increase in reproductive care patients, including those traveling from other states.
Planned Parenthood of Illinois says that patients will continued to be welcomed at the 13 other health centers across the state.
