Lewis and Clark State Historic Site Departure Celebration May 7th and 8th

May 14th marks the 218th anniversary of Lewis and Clark starting their expedition west of the Mississippi River.

The Lewis and Clark State Historic Site will host the Lewis and Clark Departure Celebration May 7th and 8th.

Visitors will get to experience what frontier life was like in the early 1800’s.

Multiple demonstrations will be on display from military reenactors, historic artist making goods and products and other experts.

Site Superintendent Brad Winn says one of the big attractions is a replica of the only boat to complete the round trip.

“These were all designed to carry as much cargo as they possibly could, you know, preparing for a trip where you have no idea where you're going other than you're going west and you have no idea how long it's going to take you to get to your destination. Was part of the process that they went through at their winter camp was trying to figure out what it is they're going to need for a trip of discovery.”

The event is free to the public and open from 10 to 4.
