Dozens gather at Woodlawn Cemetery in Carbondale for the annual Memorial Day Service.
Woodlawn Cemetery is known for hosting one of the first Memorial Day Celebrations in the country in 1868.
Over one hundred and fifty years later the tradition continues.
The event started off with a ceremonial bugler and march to the assemblage.
After the flag was raised General Order number 11 written by John A Logan was read for the crowd.
Vietnam Veteran James Selp says it's wonderful to see how those that paid the ultimate price for their country are honored.
“Just bring back a lot of memories and what I had to endure. And like I said earlier, I just thank God that I'm able to see it and still be alive and feeling. But it means a lot. It brings a lot to to the families and those that have lost their loved ones. I think it just gives them a moment to relax and knowing that they're still honored.”
The Memorial Day Address was given by Lieutenant Colonel Tamiko Mueller.
