Two people were hurt in a three-vehicle accident Thursday morning on Interstate 57 in Franklin County.
Illinois State Police report the two injuries involve a driver and a passenger in the same vehicle. They are identified as 71-year-old Thomas Sanders and 50-year-old Shuntay Sanders, both from Mesquite, Texas. They were flown to a regional hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

A preliminary investigation indicates Ms. Sanders was traveling north on Interstate 57 near milepost 76 ½ in Franklin County around 11 a.m.

Sanders and 57-year-old Dennis Mcenany from Iowa both slowed to avoid hitting a deer. 19-year-old Dakota Needham of Cambria failed to slow down, colliding with Mcenany, forcing his vehicle into the center median. Needham continued forward, striking the rear of Sanders vehicle. Needham, his 15-year-old passenger, and Mcenany were all uninjured.

Needham was cited for Failure to Reduce Speed to Avoid an Accident.
