The Carterville School District was placed on lockdown for a short period Thursday after police received a report of gunshots coming from a vehicle on Dent Street firing towards an unoccupied area of Cannon Park.

Multiple police agencies responded to the area late Thursday morning. There were no reports of damages or injuries.

The Carterville Police Department reports the lockdown was lifted after it was determined there was no immediate threat to the community.

The incident is still under investigation.
