An arrest is made in a vehicular hijacking in Carbondale

Carbondale police officers responded to an incident regarding a shooting and vehicle hijacking. The incident took place on Friday at 11:00pm on West McDaniel Street.

A male juvenile was identified as a suspect. The suspect was arrested on warrant and was charged with Aggravated Vehicular Hijacking, Vehicular Hijacking, and Unlawful Possession of a Stolen Vehicle. With further investigation, a stolen Jeep on North Oakland Avenue was discovered that same evening.

The victim had non-life-threatening gunshot wounds and was admitted to a local hospital. He was released a day later. The victim reported being stopped in his vehicle by a male he did not know before he was shot through the window.

The investigation is still active and ongoing. Anyone with information about the incident is encouraged to report it to the City of Carbondale Police Department at (618) 549-2121.
