A southeastern Illinois man faces numerous charges following a traffic stop in Carbondale, including possession of a stolen handgun.

On November 5, Carbondale police officers stopped a vehicle in the 200 block of South Wall Street for failing to display a registration plate.

During the stop, the driver of the vehicle, 21-year-old Natly Johnson of Elizabethtown, was found to be in possession of a handgun that had previously been reported stolen. There was also evidence the gun had been fired in the City. There are no reports of property damage or injuries.

Officers charged Johnson with Unlawful Possession of a Weapon by a Felon, Possession of a Stolen Firearm, Reckless Discharge of a Firearm, Improper Display of Registration, Unlawful Possession of a Vehicle Title, and Endangering the Life or Health of a Child.

He was taken to the Jackson County Jail.
