An exchange of gunfire Tuesday night in Carbondale has led to the arrest of one person and a search is underway for a second suspect.

Shortly before 9:30 p.m. Tuesday, Carbondale police officers responded to the 500 block of South Graham Street for a report of shots fired.

Officers learned the driver of a red vehicle exchanged gunfire with a man standing in front of a residence. The shooter in the vehicle was last seen traveling west on East Mill Street. There is no description of the driver nor has the person who shot from the vehicle been identified. The vehicle is described as red with black wheels.

During the investigation, officers identified the suspect who fired from the front of the residence as 26-year-old Shomari Lipscomb from Carbondale. He is charged with Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon and Possession of a Firearm without a FOID Card. A firearm and other evidence were collected.

No injuries were reported as a result of the incident. There was some property damage.

There are indications this incident is related to a personal dispute between known acquaintances.
